HOIIG met Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the West Des Moines Public Library for our last meeting of 2023.
The topic was MDBs – Miniature Dwarf Bearded Irises – the earliest blooming bearded irises. We watched the first few minutes of the American Iris Society Webinar: Dwarf Bearded Irises: the Three Types of MDBs and then talked about resources for finding more information. HOIIG is again meeting regularly at a new location. Wednesday, July 19, 2023 we met at the West Des Moines Public Library and the main topic was Iris Borers. Learn more about these iris pests (pdf) including ways of destroying them.
Unfortunately because of the Covid-19 pandemic we have cancelled in-person meetings and other events until further notice.

Iowa is part of Region 21 of the American Iris Society. The nearest clubs include Heart of Iowa Iris Growers, Greater Omaha Iris Society, and Siouxland Iris Society (Sioux City). The 2017 Fall Regional Meeting will be August 11-12 in Kearney, Nebraska. Find the registration form in the latest Region 21 Bulletin.

Heart of Iowa Iris Growers members would like to invite interested people to their second regular meeting Oct 27, 2016 at 7 pm. The meeting will be held at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Please inquire at the desk to be directed to the meeting room. Our speakers that evening are Kelly and Libby Jensen who will be sharing preparation for entering iris for judging at an iris show. We will discuss the yearly calendar and future meeting site. All are welcome who love Irises!
